My long time friend and financial and personal security expert Dave Hammer, contributes the following must have security intelligence.
People buy dozens of gallon jugs of emergency water, forgetting their home already has about two months’ drinking supply for two people. That’s their hot water tank. Close the valve on the incoming water pipe and open any hot water faucet in the house to vent the tank. Fill up a glass from the spigot at the bottom of the tank. Bacteria can grow in the tank in a few days, particularly if the homeowner kept the tank’s thermostat below 150 degrees. Just add one-quarter teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water taken from the tank (enough to barely smell the chlorine).
